Do You Need A Gluten Free Shampoo And Conditioner?
More and more doctors are recommending for Celiac and gluten sensitive patients to follow a 100% gluten free lifestyle, not just a gluten free diet.
Ever since I switched to a gluten free shampoo my scalp feels healthier. I no longer suffer from embarrassing dry scalp and dandruff “snow” that plagued me for years.
Furthermore, I have read hundreds of stories from people with Celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity that shows gluten based products that go on the skin such as cosmetics, lotions, soaps, shampoo and conditioner can cause symptoms associated with Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity.
The truth is many doctors do not only recommend treating Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity with a diet but choose to treat the whole body to relieve all symptoms.
For example, Dr. Kenneth Fine, M.D. of EnteroLab.com, states:
Gluten sensitivity is a systemic immune reaction to gluten and anywhere in the body, not just that entering the body via the gut. Therefore, topically applied lotions, creams, shampoos, etc. containing gluten would indeed provide a source of gluten to the body, and we therefore recommend all such products be discontinued for optimal health.
The bottom line is to eliminate any possibility of gluten entering your body, remove gluten from your diet and remove the non-food products that contain gluten.
Just imagine you’re lathering your hair with shampoo and a tiny bit of the soap gets in your mouth while you rinse, bam! you’ve just been glutened. Why not just use gluten free shampoo?
What To Tell Your Hairstylist
Chances are you’ve been with your hairstylist for more than a few years. Cristina (my stylist) has been cleaning me up for over 6 years and she’s become one of my good friends. I think most people would consider their hairstylist a friend. Which is why you should feel comfortable telling her that you need to use gluten free products on your hair.
When I told my hairstylist that I was gluten free she gave me a little info on the gluten free shampoo that she carries. Apparently she has quite a few clients that are gluten free.
Now whenever I book an appointment she knows only to use gluten free shampoo and conditioner to wash my hair. Don’t be afraid to speak up, I’m sure your hairstylist cares about you and wants you to have the best experience possible.
The Gluten Free Shampoo That I Use
My scalp and skin in general is quite sensitive and I’m not sure if it’s because of past use of a gluten soap, lotion, or shampoo but I’m happy with the kirkland brand shampoo. It’s not expensive, smells good, it’s gluten free, and it doesn’t make my scalp break out, plus the pump bottle makes it easy to use.
I tested the kirkland brand gluten free shampoo to make sure it was gluten free and it tested negative at 5ppm.

Oats And Wheat Can Be Grown On The Same Land

Oats Are Often Contaminated In The Milling Process
It’s expensive for the commercial mills which grind wheat and oats to have separate milling machines, facilities, and storage areas, so frequently they will grind wheat, then quickly blow out the milling apparatus to remove obvious clumps, and then grind something else – oats, barley, whatever.
No real attempt is made to clean the mill, as this would take too much time.

Are Quaker Oats Old Fashioned Gluten Free?
Obviously Quaker oats are not certified gluten free, so I do not recommend anyone consume these oats but in my daily scouring of the internet I continue to find people asking if quaker oats are gluten free so I decided to test Quaker oats old fashioned with a GlutenTox test kit to prove that they are indeed not gluten free.
This is a video of two tests that I ran on Quaker Oats Old Fashioned. Both tests were performed at 20 ppm with the GlutenTox Pro at-home test kit.
Both tests at 20 ppm turned out positive.
The positive test results is proof that commercial oats like quaker oats old fashioned can contain gluten. Not because the actual grain itself is not gluten free but because the way that the oats are processed.
Even Certified Gluten Free Oats Can Be Problematic
Oats are one of the top four cross reactive foods to gluten which means your body could be reacting to oats the same way it reacts to gluten. This cross reactivity happens because the protein structure found in oats is very similar to the protein structure of wheat, barely, and rye.
